Lake/Body is a conceptual set of projects about Lake Michigan as place and the importance of the intentional body in the landscape as it relates to environmental concerns of our water. The artist biked near the lake everyday, swam, and documented the fieldwork in poetry, audio and photographs. She also performed at the lake. She biked around the lake in a 2 week durational performance and fieldwork research, and took weekly bike trips along Chicago's lakefront. The projects that stemmed from the research include interactive installations such as Star Blanket, artist books such as Lake/Body and Variations of Water Music, as well as the manuscript, Potential Hydrogen.
The Star Blanket is an interactive, transient performance venue, tool, and sculptural object for installations. Made from handmade paper and handpicked holes the object resembles a sea of blue until the viewer enters underneath and is transformed into a space under a starry night sky.
